Is there really much belly in Belly Dance? The majority of the dance truly centers around the hips, arms, foot patterns, shimmies, and accent work. So, why is it called belly dance? Belly Dance was the name given the dance at the 1893 World's Fair. When the public heard about the danse du ventre, or belly dance, they could not wait to see this exotic dance. Before that, the folk dance from Egypt was not selling seats. During this time period the bell... Read More
We've all seen the videos of "how to..." at the store. We all buy them and promise ourselves to try something new. As a teacher of nine years, I'm often asked whether videos or classes are the best way to learn Belly Dance. I would have to say both, and here is why... Teachers in a class setting have opportunity to correct posture, movement execution, and tell you if you are making progress. A video is a great way to accelerate your learning and boost your home... As you can tell from my photo, I smoke cigarettes. People ask me all the time "Why do you smoke? It's a nasty habit. It is so expensive." It might be a nasty habit, but it is not expensive. My packs cost me around $5 each. At work, I get paid $15 an hour. I take a 5 minute smoke break every hour. That is 40 minutes of breaks a day. At $15 an hour, 40 minutes costs my boss around $8. So there, I just made $3 profit. I am literally getting paid to smoke a pack a... Read More
