Someone was asking what music to play in the car on an Arabian Flair road trip to a bellydance event. I told them to put on some Middle Eastern and bellydance music, because I wanted to get in the mood for bellydancing! That was met with a "When are you not in the mood for bellydancing?" There were laughs all around.
Bellydance has been a very bright spot in my life for over 13 years! I look forward to workshops, classes, performances, meeting new students, and working with my fellow members of Arabian Flair.
All these wonderful cultural and dance experiences opened up to me because I took a bellydance class. Just for fun, mind you! I was only using the class to get out of the house and get some exercise. Thinking back it was a super fun class and I was excited to be trying something new.
After a few months in the beginner's class, the teacher invited me to her studio for the intermediate class. I jumped right in and started to learn choreography. Wow, talk about diving in head first!
The next thing I knew, I was sewing on a costume with my Mama and Grandma. They were determined that I was going to have a proper costume! Gold beads, fabric, and needles were flying. We whipped out a wonderful costume for the Festival of Lights show in downtown Tallahassee!
Workshops came as a wonderful way to learn new skills in bellydance. There were different styles of bellydance, props to use, and every instructor had such wonderful life stories!
Bellydance became more and more a part of my life. I am happy when I am dancing. Bellydance fills me with such joy. My husband shares in my hobby. Oh no, he does not dance. He says he doesn't look good in the flowing skirts. *giggle* He drums for me while I dance, he emcee's at our shows, and helps us with stage and sound. That is wonderful! Sharing your hobby with your loved one.
Several years went by and I decided that I would start my own troupe. Arabian Flair was born! Arabian Flair was soon full of wonderful ladies.
Women who join us for class find themselves among friends. We gather for Arabian Flair classes, performances, trips, and workshops. We bring bellydance into our lives for different reasons, but one thing is sure, we all dance for the joy of it.
