A New Take on the

Boring Sandwich
by: Pedro Sempertegui
& Lindsay White

When I first heard about The Crepevine, I thought it only served desserts and pastries.  It turns out that they've pushed the crepe into some exciting new directions.  We decided to check out the new location on North Monroe Street.

The Crepevine has been around for about 5 years and was started by a graduate from FSU.

The location on Monroe has been there for about a year now and the place looks great.  It had a very clean, yet casual dining area.  Lindsay loved the art pieces on the walls. "We should get something like those paintings in the back for the apartment."

The dining area was spaced out and finding a table to sit at wasn't an issue.  I always hated places that had the tables too close together.  I'm sure no one likes to get bumped by a random passerby while they're enjoying their meal.  There was some seating outside which would be nice to take advantage of in the oncoming months.  One thing that I really liked was the size of the tables.  That, coupled with the Wi-Fi, this place allows for a very productive lunch break.  I checked my email and browsed the interweb for a bit before ordering.

When we figured out what we wanted to eat, the cashier was all too happy to take our order. The staff seemed like a friendly bunch of guys and girls. They were talking and laughing with one another and they didn't hesitate to joke around with any of the customers in line. It added a lot to the relaxed environment.

The menu offers a lot of different options that range from hearty breakfast crepes to creamy desert crepes.  A lot of other restaurants need to jump on this trend of offering breakfast throughout the day.  That would bring in more people, especially in college towns like Tallahassee.  I ended up ordering the "Benvincible" and Lindsay ordered the "Danimal."

When the crepes came out, they looked indistinguishable from one another.  Each had the same golden crepe crust.  However, their similarities ended after the first bite.

I loved the meatiness of the "Benvincible".  It came with a lot of chicken, as advertised, and the crunch of the lettuce and peppers tantalized my taste buds.  Usually Lindsay and I have a lot to talk about over lunch, but this was a particularly quiet affair.  When I asked if she liked what she got, she responded with a short, "It's good," and quickly got back to eating.  She didn't elaborate until after she finished the "Danimal".

"You know," she began, "I think that this might be one of my desert island foods.  I loved the honey mustard.  It didn't overpower the ham and chicken." She didn't take kindly to super saucy things.

For dessert we tried to pick something completely different from one another, but when there's Nutella on the menu, lord knows that's the first thing I'm going to try.  I picked their wildly popular "Gilberto" dessert crepe and Lindsay decided on the "Uber Goober."  After the first bite I knew I found my favorite dessert.  I couldn't understand how I went this far in life without knowing what Nutella/banana/strawberry goodness that lay snugly inside a soft warm crepe.  The sweet melodies of whipped cream and Nutella can't reasonably be described without song.

Lindsay sought to correct a previous statement, "You know how I said that the Danimal was my desert island food?  I take that back.  This," she prodded the Uber Goober. "If I was put on death row in a prison on a desert island and my last meal was scheduled the night before the rapture, I'd pick the Uber Goober."

+ I loved the speedy service and the great food.
+ The Wi-Fi is that little extra that helps customers relax and enjoy the atmosphere.
