Argostoli on the Greek island of Kefalonia
September 25, 2011

Today was a clear, sunny day with the temperature in the low 80's.  Early in the morning, we arrived in the small town of Argostoli on the Greek Island of Kefalonia.  Kefalonia is off the western shore of mainland Greece about halfway down its coast.  It's a popular destination as much for its sunny days as for its unusual geological formations.

We left the ship at about 9:30 and six of us hired two taxi's to tour the island.  We had two very nice Greek drivers and we circled the island in about three hours.  The island is mountainous, rugged and fertile.  The water is very clear and blue.  At one point during our drive, we came to some caves and had the opportunity to go underground to see all the stalagmites and stalactites.  Later on, we again went underground, but this time it was on a small rowboat on an underground lake.  The "pilot" of our rowboat had a good sense of humor and became the boat nazi and "commanded" everyone where and how to sit then broke out in song.

Back on board the ship, this evening we treated ourselves to a special dinner in the Tamarind restaurant, which specializes in Pan Asian cuisine.  The food was great and the service exceptional.  All in all, it was a great day to be in the Greek Islands.
