Hot for the Holidays

Boot Camp Fitness & Training

Wow, twelve weeks from today will be Christmas Eve. That means 13 weeks from today millions of people will be setting goals and making resolutions for the New Year.

Did you make resolutions for 2011? Did you stick to them?

I have a crazy idea that I did this with our boot camp clients last year at this time. We started our transformations before the Holidays. In other words, we were hot for the holidays!

This is the time of year when most people start the downward spiral into weight gain. It begins with Halloween and doesn't stop until January 1st. Why not join us and start now!
Picture yourself showing up at Holiday parties feeling confident and looking good. Imagine how great it would feel to hear family and friends oohing and ahhing over your new physique when you see them at Holiday gatherings.

Losing fat and transforming your body over the Holidays is not as hard as you might think. We are programed to eat (and eat) a lot during the Holidays. I'm here to tell you that it does not have to be this way.

If you start now and I mean now, you can easily drop several sizes in the next 12 weeks.

Let's start with Halloween.

The old me would go out and buy my favorite candy. Not only that, but I would get a jumpstart by buying my candy a week a head of time. Big mistake, huge!

I found myself having to run out again, sometimes more than once to replenish the candy I ate in the week before Halloween. Having my favorite candy in the house was a bad idea. It called me, it haunted me and I gave in. Don't tell me you don't do that.

The last several years have seen a huge decline in trick- or -treaters coming to my house. Last year I think we had 5. Do I really need 10 pounds of candy?

First thing to do is to buy something you don't like. Something you won't eat. Buy it the day before or even the day of. Planning a head is going to save you a lot of temptation.

Ok, you've made it though the first part, now comes the hard part. Your little ghosts and goblins come home with bags of sugary, gooey, yummy, chocolaty, nutty goodness.

As a parent, I felt it my duty and sacrifice to check the candy. After all, I didn't want my kids to be poisoned. Yes, as a responsible parent, I had to make the ultimate sacrifice by putting my life at risk by testing out the candy.

I tore through bags of candy, scarfing down candy bars, milk duds, M&Ms and yes, even Candy Corn. You never know if some lunatic is going to stick tiny razor blades in the Candy Corn.

Risking my life for the sake of my kid's continued on for days until all that was left was Chub Nubs. You know, that generic individually wrapped candy that no one ate. I was sure no one in his or her right mind would waste the time or energy poisoning a Chub Nub. Those went straight into the trash.

Once the candy was gone, I was left feeling lethargic, bloated and fat and still craving more sugar.

This was start of the Holiday weight gain.

So, you can decide now. Do you want to continue doing what you've always done or do you want to change? If you want to change, read on.

Do not buy your Halloween candy a head of time! Do not buy something you like! Give your kids a little bag and just take them to a few houses. You do not have to make a night of this. You do not have to fill up a pillowcase. This is the perfect time to teach your kids moderation. You have to set the example. You have to set boundaries.

Let them eat a couple of pieces a day for a few days and then toss the rest. Trust me, no one is going to die and you are not wasting food. Candy and sugar is NOT food.

Once you have made it through Halloween, you are going to feel stronger and feeling stronger and having the confidence that you are in control is going to give you jumpstart into surviving the rest of the Holidays.

I'll be back for more tips to get you through Thanksgiving and office parties. Until then, set some goals and some strategies to succeed.
