Food Critic Review: Tally's Grille
OFFLINE

Posted On 09/09/2010 14:30:11 by Tally_Food_Critic

I walked into Tally's Grille in Market Square and immediately felt like I was in a classic Mom & Pop country diner like my uncle used to take me to as a kid.

They only serve Breakfast and Lunch - Monday thru Friday with Breakfast ONLY on Saturdays. Closed Sundays.

You order at the counter and you are greeted by Dixie, one of the owners, and she takes your order. Very friendly and doesn't rush you.  Turns out her son and business partner, Chris, is working the grill.  When the owners are cooking, you know they care about what they are serving.

I got the Chicken Santa Fe. It was grilled chicken, ham and cheese on a sub roll with a side of sweet & sour sauce. I also got the steak fries and an unsweet tea.

The sandwiches are made to order, and when they are done they get placed on the counter and they call out your name to "Come N Get It!"

You then bring your basket over to the condiment bar to add your own toppings... lettuce, tomato, onions, ketchup, Cuzzy's Sauce, etc. And the drink station to get your tea or fountain drink.

I was taking a break between appointments and was alone. The smallest table I could find sat 4 people. So I felt awkward taking up an entire table by myself.  And, unfortunately, there is no Wifi available for your laptop.  But the other guests did not seem to mind as they were all busy visiting with their friends and colleagues.

I took a bite of my sub sans sweet n sour sauce. I decided it needed a little extra oomph so I added the sauce. That hit the spot. I looked around at the burgers and steak subs, planning my next visit...

Here is my grade for my first visit to Tally's Grille:

Ambience: Country Diner Feel

Service: Very Good, Very friendly

Time from order to serve: Reasonable for made to order with a crowd.

Prices: Very reasonable.

Cleanliness: Very clean.

Food: Hearty servings for a good price. I couldn't finish.

Iced Tea: YES! and it's a to-go cup so I can refill for the road. Extra points for that one!

Wifi: No

Meeting Clients: Good. Not loud, not sitting too far apart. So unless you require Wifi, I would recommend it.

Locally Owned? Yes.
