Tallahassee Restaurant Review: Eternal Grounds Coffee Shop
|
| | | A Soul Nuturing Cup at Eternal Grounds Coffee Shop by Pedro Sempertegui | | The coffee bean helps fuel our world with its magical powers. One cup can give us the energy to take on the day while one pitcher can give us the energy to power through the night. Some load it up with milk and sugar but I like keeping it dark. For one thing, it’s easier for when you’re on the go, and I’ve grown to appreciate that bold flavor. It’s way better than pouring those disgustingly sweet energy drinks down your gullet. I know I usually bring my favorite woman with me to review restaurants around town, but this time I had to go stag. Earlier this week I stopped by Eternal Grounds Coffee Shop for a cup of coffee and some time to unwind. It sits in the Village Square shopping center on Thomasville, a few shops over from Rayann’s Christian Book Store.
| | To be honest, I don’t usually frequent openly religious establishments. Not because I’m against them, but because more often than not they primarily cater to a select group of people I'm not a part of. But after spending some time at Eternal Grounds, I realized that I didn’t have to go to church every Sunday to feel welcomed at this Christian coffee shop. |
| | Eternal Grounds opened its doors this past November and for being open for such a short period of time, the place looked like it had always been there. It fit right in. The seating arrangements and decorations looked so well put together. While I’m no authority on the qualifications of achieving Feng Shui, I can definitely see that this place flowed well. I got my coffee, an almond brew, and sat down at one of the many tables around the café. The shop was lively with groups of people, young and old, chatting about their lives and how they felt about scripture. Just as the owner, Tobi Hester, came out from behind the counter bring out some piping hot coffee; a group of women came in carrying folders. It turns out that since its opening, Eternal Grounds has welcomed groups from around Tallahassee to host their meetings here. | |
| After Tobi finished helping the women get settled she came over to ask me how I was doing. We started talking and she explained how she came up with the idea to open her own coffee shop. In a world with mega corporations like McDonalds and Starbucks in the industrial coffee game it must be a tough market. She explained, “We’re about bringing coffee shops back to the community and providing a safe haven from all the doom and gloom in the world.” Much like Starbuck’s products, Eternal Grounds deals in fair trade coffee beans and takes a step further by promoting local businesses. | Eternal Grounds stocks Lucky Goat brand coffee which comes from our very own neck of the woods. Lucky Goat Coffee calls the Big Bend its home and roasts all of its beans in-house. After getting in contact with Lucky Goat Coffee, Tobi Hester was referred to another local business man to gain some more quality merchandise. All of Eternal Grounds’ pastries and baked goods come from local brunch hotspot Bagel Heads. Delicious treats like cookies, muffins, and cherry turnovers fill the display case by the register. I’ve had many of the bagels from Bagel Heads, so I know that these make for some seriously good breakfast. The atmosphere is great, the people are great, and the coffee is so good it can wake the dead. I whole heartedly suggest you to check the place out even if you don’t follow any particular brand of Christianity. Tobi will welcome all with soft music and open arms. She feels that “coffee is a tool to reach people and it’s even better when the message comes from a safe and positive environment.”

| | My take away +The coffee is great and so are the bagels. + The comfortable chairs and free Wi-Fi make for a great place to escape from a hectic world.
