Moms are the hardest working people in the country. Many have their own full time or part time jobs, but being a mom is a full time job in itself.
It is difficult for a mother of school-age children to find a good job with a flexible schedule – face it, some have to get one kid to school at 7 and the other at 9 – then have to pick one up at 2 and the other at 4:30 and taxi them to various activities. Not to mention the days the kid needs to stay home from school because of illness or teacher planning days – nevermind the summer vacation and the spring and winter breaks.
I know there are a lot of understanding bosses out there but Moms have a value that trumps that – they have integrity. They don’t want to let their coworkers down or hang them out to dry by not showing up. Although family always comes first, when they call in with a sick child their stomach is in knots.
I was doing some research lately and found out that a lot of moms are either starting their own businesses or getting involved in multi-level-marketing type ventures. This way they can have a flexible schedule with no one to answer to, make a little extra money but also have that social interaction with adults that comes with working.
