The conversation went this way, “Do you have it? I don't have it. Well it was with you. No, it was with you. It was not. I saw it with you the last time we had it. Well it better not be lost. It is not lost, you have it.” and on and on the bantering went.
The question? “What the heck was the “it” that became such an ordeal about “it”? “It”, that little noun “it”. It is about as abstract as it comes unless it has something associated with “it”. It is broad. It can be narrow. It is identifying or it is conceptual. It can have meaning, or it can be meaningless. It may have value, or it may be worthless. It is often used, and it is seldom used depending on when it is appropriate.
One wonders how many times the word “it” is used in conversations everyday? Maybe it is time to start thinking about it and redefining for others what it is, but then again, maybe that's about enough of it for now. Forget it. I've had it. Don't say it. Stop it. Until tomorrow...Why Say More?
