Belly dancing in Tallahassee!
OFFLINE

My name is Amy Renee and I own Arabian Flair, Modern Bellydance Company.  I've been teaching bellydance classes in Tallahassee since 2002.  Teaching is a joy to me, and I love to share bellydance with everyone... and I mean everyone!  You really can not be around me for too long with out something bellydance related coming up.

Well, I started taking classes in 1998 after I figured out I needed some sort of exercise.  Then 6 months later, I was dancing with a local bellydance troupe!  We had so much fun!  My inner Diva was totally happy, my husband liked that I had a hobbie, and my family knew I had finally gone off the deep end.

I found myself doing things and activities I never thought I would be able to do.  I had lived all my life as a Diva trapped in a regular woman's body.  I thought I had popped open.  Letting that Diva out felt wonderful!  She could dress in sparkly outfits, fringe and jewelry enough to blind a person in full sun light.  I mean we do live in Florida, so one could have been hurt.

After several shows and my first out of town bellydance workshop, I was done for.  Everything I did revolved around the bellydance group.  That group of women, husband drummers in tow, were awesome friends.  They taught me that if a little diva works very hard, she will grow to be a Queen Diva.  With stage make-up classes, sparkels on every inch of our costumes, hair done up just so, and shoes to match... we rocked Tallahassee.

The shows and performances took us on road trips to cities all over the South.  I knew I had found my calling!  Loving the spotlight and sharing it with other Divas with my same passion for shakin' their tail feathers, oh what a time!

All from one little bellydance class!  I found friends, a hobbie, a passion, culture, music, food, travel, and an activity that makes me proud of myself.  I am so glad that bellydance is a part of my life.  I don't know what I would do without my sparkles and showcases.

As I've said, I love to share this with others.  Women and men bellydance, but my classes are almost always women.  Trained dancers and beginners alike are amazed by the bellydance.  Most wonderful thing is, you don't have to be Ginger Rodgers to start bellydancing.  You just have to start!

Thanks for sharing, Amy! Love the humor. I often wonder how people get into what they are passionate about.  It tends to start off slow, like when I started collecting records. I never thought I would end up such an enthusiast!
