Is billiards a sport or is it just a leisure activity?

By Geo's Pool and Pub

Some people say that billiards is just a fun leisure activity and not a real sport.  I say it is both.

You and your friends can play for fun or you may have a tournament to find a winner! Some people go to pool halls and play a game of billiards with friends or play with people at the next table.  There is no real physical activity in billiards, you don't sweat too much and there is rarely any injuries or blood when playing.  After a few drinks there may be some trouble, but that is for a different blog.

You can enjoy pool if you are young or old, man or woman, and there is no advantage to being either.  A game is easy to find, but you may have to be a certain age to get into a place.  You can find a pool table in an apartment complex, a hotel, a neighbors house, or your favorite restaurant, so there is always a game to be found.  You can play alone and just practice in billiards, but try to do that with a football or baseball.

Billiards is a sport due to the fact that it takes strategy, planning, and execution to hit shots, and as a professional, you can make some pretty good money.  In addition, ESPN shows many of the major Billiards Tournament in the World, so they obviously think it is a sport.  However, I think billiards is best played with a beer in your hand and your friends at the table talking shit.

See you on the felt!
