The Brogan Museum has a seven year tradition of
hosting the Tibetan Monks. This tour will bring eleven Monks to Tallahassee, who
will showcase the creation of their sacred Sand Mandala with a traditional
Sweeping Ceremony. They will create a Green Tara Mandala specifically for the
Museum which represents prosperity and accomplishment. Visitors will also have
a chance to purchase special handmade items at the Tibetan Bazaar, which will be
located inside the Museum. Proceeds from the sales will support the Monastery.
The Monks have been sent to North America to
spread their message of wisdom and compassion, and to increase awareness of the
unique Tibetan culture. Funds generated during the tour will be used to
educate, feed, house, and care for thousands of refugee Monks in India.
Participation is free with paid admission. Hours
of Operation during this time are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The opening ceremony will
take place at 12 p.m. on February 21. There will be a lecture on The Symbolism
of the Sand Mandala on February 23 from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The cost for this program is $15 per adult; $10
for seniors, members of the military, and students; and $5 per child. The
